Surfin' Dead
Veggies A Go-Go!
![]() |
Surfin' Dead began life in London of the late 80's, sick and tired of lifeless, inchallenging music. Friday nights were a well trodden path between dismal dance clubs for Thatcher's children. They formed the band for their own entertainment. This was not a 'product'. They wanted to play loud and in a tumbledown, ramshackle fashion which said; "This is trash... You're excrement and life is shit... and we think that's funny." Influenced by punk, Elvis and 'Rawk n' Roll' the band set about looking for methods to annoy anybody and everybody, especially people who claimed to like them. This led to the release of the indie-dance single 'OLD'. With much airplay and critical acclain, sweet success beckoned. However, one man's meat is another man's poison... so the band split in two, vegetarians going one way, the carnivores the other. While the veggies went about doing 'something intriguing with patagonian flute music', the carnivores set out to find a new, more challenging assault on the senses! The three carnivores, Richard, Daphne and Lars Torders, retired for two years to various European cities to find a new direction. Combining the production techniques of producers such as Conny Plank and Giorgio Moroder, with the no-nonsense punk and roll that typified their earkier incarnation, Surfin' Dead developed SAUSAGE METAL. The result is best taken with extreme violence, any cocktail of drugs and alcahol or during illicit sex acts. It's really funny watching people with psychiatric disorders trying to deal with the lyrical content as well as the mesmerising alen breakbeats. If this stuff gets networked, you'll have to send for U.N.C.L.E. Surfin' Dead's new sound owes much to Kraftwork and DAF as well as Ministry, Suicide ('America, America is killing its youth..' ha ha!), Village people, Front 242, Donna Summer, The Pet Shop Boys, glam, goth and techno. The overwhelming feel of it all is European. 'Sausage' refers to a favourite mittel Europe delicacy, although some might believe this to be a gay reference. |
